A local man returned from eleven days of leave to find his position filled by a slightly better version of himself, who had started the previous Monday and was already well regarded by the department.
Colleagues described the replacement as punctual, agreeable and marginally taller. Payroll records show no interruption in employment. The man's own badge continues to work, though it now opens a different door.
Human resources confirmed it had not been aware a change had occurred, only that things had improved. The man has been offered a position elsewhere in the company and is said to be looking forward to it.
